About Us
MayWay Education | AP & IB Experts
MayWay Education is an AP and IB subject-teaching centre based in Markham, Ontario, specialising in curriculum instruction and examination preparation across both international programmes.
The families we work with typically face the same difficulty of judgement. Their child has entered, or is about to enter, an AP or IB programme; the importance of the outcome is not in question. What is missing is a reliable basis for answering three things: what requires attention at this stage, to what standard, and who should be teaching it.
Our programme:
Academic planning. As a centre dedicated to AP and IB, MayWay is led by an academic team experienced in both systems, with roughly a decade of practice in international-curriculum academic planning. That experience is visible directly in how our courses are levelled and sequenced: the decision about which level a student should enter, and how the levels transition into one another, rests on a long-standing understanding of both systems' syllabus requirements and their progression of competence — not on a generic tutoring template.
Structured levels. Courses are organised into four levels — Foundation, Preparation, Core, and Crash — with placement determined by a student's stage of learning rather than by grade. Each level defines the students it serves, the core problem it addresses, and its boundary with the levels adjacent to it: Foundation establishes subject fundamentals and study method; Preparation bridges the school curriculum into the AP or IB system; Core delivers systematic coverage of the syllabus; Crash concentrates on pre-examination performance and technique.
Teaching assistants. Each level is offered in a Standard and a Mentored format. Standard serves students who manage their own pace and complete work reliably. Mentored provides the same instruction with a teaching assistant responsible for progress tracking, homework follow-through, error management, and weekly feedback.
An in-house team and a proprietary question bank. MayWay maintains a dedicated question-bank team responsible for authoring, grading, and revising our material. Every item is catalogued by subject, syllabus point, difficulty level, and question type, so that material can be drawn precisely for the level a student is working at. Building our own bank gives difficulty control a reliable source of material — commercially available resources are inconsistently labelled and unevenly covered, and cannot support precise, levelled training.
Published structure. The hour composition of every course — the balance between instruction and practice, the scheduling of each phase by week, and the extent of tutorial support — is published in full before enrolment, so that families can verify and compare.
Before enrolment, a subject diagnostic determines the recommended level and format, together with the reasoning behind it. Where it indicates that MayWay is not the strongest option currently available, we say so
Our Mission
1 · Understand it, then explain it
Gaps in a student's understanding usually surface only when they have to explain the material themselves. We ask students not merely to follow the lesson and arrive at the right answer, but to set out the reasoning behind a problem clearly and independently. This is our sole test of genuine mastery: if it can be explained, it has been learned.
2 · Understand first, score second
There is a distance between understanding a subject and scoring in it. Through frequent practice, error tracking, and staged assessment, we translate knowledge into performance that is repeatable and predictable under examination conditions — closing the gap between working through problems at home and earning marks in the exam hall.
3 · Build lifelong learning ability
A course ends; the capacity to learn does not. We develop note-taking systems, time management, and independent study skills alongside subject content, so that students remain equipped to handle new subjects and new stages after they leave the classroom.
Learning Pathway & Stage Planning
MayWay's programme is built on the North American education framework and designed against the syllabus requirements and assessment standards of both the AP and IB systems, using clearly defined levels to build subject capability in sequence. Courses follow a level-based pathway: placement is determined by a student's current capability, not by grade. Each level has a defined responsibility and a clear boundary, and students move up once they meet the criteria. Practice material follows a deliberate structure — predominantly set slightly above examination difficulty, with a small proportion of high-difficulty problems. The main body of training sits above real exam level so that students carry a margin into the examination room; the harder material extends the ceiling of their thinking rather than manufacturing discouragement.
Level 1 · Foundation Course
For students in Grades 8–9 with clear gaps in subject fundamentals, or those wishing to start early. The emphasis is on closing prerequisite gaps and building subject vocabulary, alongside establishing study method — note-taking systems, time management, independent study. This level also includes AP / IB course selection and pathway planning.
Level 2 · Preparation Course
The bridge from the school curriculum into the AP or IB system. It closes the knowledge gaps that matter before the formal course begins and builds a complete subject framework and problem-solving approach, so that students can keep pace from the first week. The focus here is framework and gap-closing, not score maximisation.
Level 3 · Core Course
The central teaching level, corresponding to the formal course content. It delivers systematic coverage of the syllabus and reinforces work across question types, so that school results and examination capability advance together. This level gives equal weight to thorough understanding and fluent execution.
Level 4 · Crash Course
The pre-examination level, where no new content is introduced. Work concentrates on high-frequency topics, extensive past-paper and question-bank practice, examination technique, and the repair of a student's specific weak points.
Scientific Difficulty Control Mechanism
Research Team & Proprietary Question Bank
MayWay maintains a dedicated question-bank research team responsible for authoring, grading, and iterating our material. Every training item is catalogued by subject, syllabus point, difficulty level, and question type, so that material can be drawn precisely for the level a student is working at. A proprietary bank addresses three inherent problems with commercially available resources: unreliable difficulty labelling, uneven syllabus coverage, and the inability to update as the exam framework changes. When difficulty must be precisely controlled, the source of the questions itself must be controllable.
Error Tracking System
Errors from each lesson are recorded and given focused study. Teaching assistants re-introduce them in subsequent training and require students to record explanation videos, until the student can solve them reliably across different contexts.
Course Difficulty Analysis
Each year we analyse the difficulty distribution, syllabus-point weighting, and question-type shifts of that year's examinations, and recalibrate the difficulty baseline for the next round of the question bank accordingly. This is the premise on which the 'slightly above exam difficulty' setting rests — only by first confirming where the exam currently sits can 'one notch higher' become a concrete coordinate rather than a vague phrase. The syllabus and the emphasis of question-setting shift, so the bank must be realigned every year.
Calibrated Above the Real Exam Baseline
The main body of question-bank training is set one notch above the real examination level. The intensity of students' daily practice exceeds what they will face in the exam room, so they carry a margin into the exam — and that margin determines how steadily they perform under time pressure and unfamiliar question framing.
Grade Learning Pathway
| Grade | Focus |
|---|---|
| 9 | Foundation Building + Course Selection |
| 10 | Subject Enhancement |
| 11 | AP / IB + IA |
| 12 | Sprint + EE + Offers |
Students enter at the level indicated by their diagnostic — those with solid fundamentals may begin directly at Core or Crash. The diagnostic sets out both the recommended level and the reasoning behind it.
